Creating and Scheduling Playlists in AzuraCast

The process of creating and scheduling playlists in AzuraCast is straightforward and efficient. As a station operator, you can easily upload media files, such as songs, jingles, and ads, and organize them into playlists with the option to also schedule them to play at specific times/dates.

Accessing AzuraCast

  1. Log in to your AzuraCast account using your station's details. This is in most cases found at the URL a1.asurahosting.com/login (Depending on your nodes hostname)

  2. Once logged in, scroll down to the "Station Overview" Section and then click on the "Manage" button next to your station. This will take you to the main dashboard for your station, where you can manage all aspects for your AzuraCast station.

Creating a Playlist

  1. Click on the "Playlists" option in the AzuraCast dashboard.

  2. Click the "Add Playlist" button.

  3. Fill in the basic configuration for the playlist:

    • Playlist Name: The Playlist Name, will show up on the "scheduled view" page
    • Source: Choose "Song-Based". Only choose "Remote URL" if its playing the songs off a remote audio link.
    • Avoid Duplicate Artists/Titles: Enable if you want AutoDJ to avoid repeating the same artist/songs from the playlist.
    • Include in On-Demand Player: Enable if you want the playlist to be downloadable.
    • Allow Requests from This Playlist: Will allow users to request specific songs from the playlist.
    • Hide Metadata from Listeners: If enabled, this will disable song titles/names from showing up on your stations audio player.
    • Playlist Type: Choose the type of playlist.
      • General Rotation - The standard playlist type. Auto-DJ will play songs from standard playlists at random depending on their set "weight"
      • Once per x Songs - Auto-DJ will play one song out of the playlist, every x amount of songs that are played on the station.
      • Once per x Minutes - Auto-DJ will play one song out of the playlist, every x amount of minutes.
      • Once per Hour - Auto-DJ will play one song out of the playlist every hour.
      • Advanced - Only choose this option if you have experience with editing LiquidSoap's configuration.
    • Song Playback Order: How Auto-DJ will choose songs out of the playlist
      • Shuffled - Auto-DJ will shuffle the playlist and then play it in that shuffled order.
      • Random - Auto-DJ will pick a song at random out of the playlist and play it.
      • Sequential - Auto-DJ will play the songs in the order that it is set it.
  4. Save your playlist.

Scheduling Playlists

If you would like your playlist to only play at a certain time or date, heres how to schedule it in AzuraCast.

  1. Click on the "Playlists" option in the AzuraCast dashboard.

  2. Click on the "Edit" button next to the playlist name.

  3. Click on the "Schedule" tab and then click on the "Add Schedule Item" Button.

  4. Set the date and times when you want the playlist to play.

  5. Save your schedule. Auto-DJ will now only play that playlist at that specific set time/date.

Advanced Playlist Options

Advanced playlist options give you the ability to specify certain advanced features for your playlist, such as interrupting the current playing song if you'd require the playlist to trigger at an exact time.

  1. Click on the "Playlists" option in the AzuraCast dashboard.

  2. Click on the "Edit" button next to the playlist name.

  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab and you'll be able to enable certain Advanced features for your playlists:

    • Interrupt other songs to play at scheduled time: Will allow Auto-DJ to interrupt any song thats currently being played on the stations stream to play the playlist at its scheduled time. This is useful if you need the playlist to play at a specific exact time, without waiting for the current playing song to end.
    • Only play one track at scheduled time: Will only play a single song from the playlist at the scheduled time its supposed to play.
    • Merge playlist to play as a single track: Will merge all the playlists songs together and play it as a single track within your station. This option is useful for playlist mixes when you want the mix name to be shown instead of the song itself.

Reviewing Playlist Schedules

A unique feature with AzuraCast is a publicly viewable schedule, where your listeners can view a complete outlook for your stations planned playlists. Heres how to find the public URL for that page:

  1. Navigate to your main dashboard for your AzuraCast station.

  2. Look for the "Schedule" field under the "Public Pages" section. The URL displayed in this field is your public schedule URL.

    You can copy and share this URL to provide public access to your station's schedule. You can also use this URL as a reference if your planning out the schedules for your playlists.
